Cherry Blossoms and Culinary Adventures in DC

IMG-5950This past spring, I had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. as the Cherry Blossoms were in full bloom on the National Mall. These beautiful trees were a gift to the US from Japan in 1912. When the trees bloom in the spring, it is a spectacular sight to behold.

It was a beautiful spring day, perfect for taking in the National monuments.

For dinner, we put our names in for a table at Little Serow, which serves a set-menu of Northern Thai dishes. Although the wait for a table can be long, it was well worth it try this culinary adventure. The menu changes weekly.

First, we had the nam prim pita yang, which consisted of eggplant, grilled fish, and khi mu chilies. Luckily there was plenty of rice served to cool things off! This was followed by the tam khanun: jackfruit, pork, and shrimp paste.

The dishes were spicy and flavorful. Other courses included chicken with chicken offal, tofu with ginger and peanut, and catfish. The fresh noodles were served with pork. There was even a dessert course of frozen custard.

Little Serow was a fun, delicious dinner. I would recommend going by early when they open to put your name in for a table. They will text you when one is available. So if the weather is nice, you can take a walk around the neighborhood or stop in one of the nearby bars for a drink.
